A Preliminary Announcement for the International Conference on Theory and Practice of Local Studies

August 19-21, 2016 in Beijing, China A Preliminary Announcement for the International Symposium on Theory and Practice of Local Studies The International Symposium onTheory and Practice of Local Studies will be held on August 19-21, 2016 in Beijing, China, jointly by Institute of Beijing Studies of Beijing Union University (BUU) and Chinese Association of Local Studies. The purpose of the international symposium is  to provide a platform for researchers and academicians from all over the world to present their theoretical research results of local studies, exchange their ideas, as well as to share their practical experiences. Modern Local Studies is a comprehensive discipline, which focuses on the typical and representative region and even the whole country to carry out the comprehensive studies relating to regional synthesis composed of human and natural elements. Involved in humanities and social sciences, the science of Local Studies is regarded as a cross-disciplinary science combining History, Geography, Economics, Sociology and other disciplines. Local studies is to investigate the process in which a space is transformed into a certain place, to explore the placeness of a place and to reveal its formation process, development law, regional characteristics and dynamic mechanism. In view of this, the research of local studies make it possible for a place to show its regional cultural characteristics, predict its future and promote its cultural, social, economic, political, and ecological development. We sincerely invite the experts and scholars from around the globe who are interested and involved in related fields to submit papers and attend the symposium. The symposium details are as follows: Symposium Theme:Theory and Practice of Local Studies Symposium Hosts:Institute of Beijing Studies, BUU Chinese Association of Local Studies Symposium Venue: Beijing Important Dates: Accepting registration form: by June31, 2016 Call for papers/abstracts: by July31, 2016 Symposium check-in: August 19, 2016 Symposium date: August 20, 2016 Field trip: August 21, 2016 Symposium Language:Symposium papers are expected to be written in Chinese or English. Presentation at symposium in Chinese, English, Korean, or Japanese are accepted. Simultaneous interpretation in these languages will be provided. Symposium Expenses: The Institute of Beijing Studies will provide participants the local accommodations, meals, and field trip for the duration of the symposium. Participants need pay the transportation costs to Beijing, visa application fees, and personal expenses for themselves. Call for Papers:The symposium calls for papers/abstracts.All abstracts will be compiled and printed before the symposium. The full-paper proceedings of symposium will be published after the symposium. Some excellent full papers in Chinese can be published in Journal of Beijing Union University (Humanities and Social Sciences) (ISSN 1672-917) or Collected Papers of Beijing Studies 2016.Some selected full papers in English may be published in the Special Issue of Sustainability (ISSN 2071-1050), Sustainability of Local Cultural Heritages, which is in discussion. Paper Requirements: Full paper should contain around 10000 words, with an abstract (200–300 words), 3-5 keywords, and author’s bibliography (50 words, including country, name, birthday, gender, nationality, degree, position, employer, and major research areas, etc.).
